Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)

Making It Easier for Eligible Children to Access Dental Care
Healthy smiles begin with good habits, regular check-ups, and parents who have the right information. At Croydon Dental Clinic, we love helping children feel comfortable at the dentist while giving families practical advice they can use at home every day.
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) provides eligible families with access to dental services for their children. If your child qualifies, the program may provide benefits for a range of basic dental services, making it easier to keep up with regular visits and encourage healthy oral habits from an early age.
If you’re unsure whether your child is eligible, our team is happy to help you check.
CHECK YOUR CHILD’S ELIGIBILITY
Why Early Dental Care Matters
Children’s teeth play an important role in eating, speaking, learning, and guiding the development of adult teeth. Building positive dental habits while children are young can make future dental visits feel familiar and encourage good oral hygiene well into adulthood.
Regular check-ups also give parents the opportunity to ask questions about topics such as:
- brushing and flossing
- healthy food and drink choices
- thumb sucking and dummy use
- teething and tooth development
- protecting teeth during sport.
What is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule?
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is an Australian Government program administered through Medicare.
Eligible children may receive benefits for a range of basic dental services, which may include:
- dental examinations
- professional cleans
- X-rays, when clinically appropriate
- fissure sealants
- fluoride applications
- fillings
- extractions where required
- root canal treatment where appropriate.
Medicare sets the benefit limits and eligible services. Current program details are available through Services Australia.
Who Can Receive CDBS?
A child is generally eligible if they:
- are aged 0 to 17 years for at least one day during the calendar year
- are eligible for Medicare
- they, or their parent or guardian, receive an eligible government payment, such as Family Tax Benefit Part A, Parenting Payment, or ABSTUDY, at least once during the year.
Eligibility is determined by Services Australia, so if you’re unsure, we can help you check.
